Here comes the rain!

Over the past several years our area has experienced drought conditions which has had several adverse reactions on our local environment. Such as drying and cracking of soil and erosion. Recently though, we have experienced a dramatic increase in rain fall that, although good for us, has come with its fair share of issues too. At the time of this post we are currently under a flood warning until further notice! And the national weather service in Charleston is predicting more rain on the way! With the risk of flooding becoming more likely and the increase in soil moisture your untreated crawl space or foundation may be at more risk than what you realize.

The soil in our area can tend to be rich in clay which expands and contracts as the amount of moisture is the ground increases or decreases. Because of all this shrinking and expanding your foundations may have shifted in order to accommodate the changing environment. If your windows or doors are sticking or you’ve noticed cabinets not closing properly you may very well have a foundation issue. Sometimes by the time you notice a major crack major damage may have already occurred.

Likewise, as the waters rise, homes that are built on a crawl space that’s not sealed may experience flooding and water intrusion that could lead to such things like wood rot, mold and poor air quality for your family to name just a few issues. We can offer you several solutions to all these problems and many more. So, if you are experiencing any of these issues or just think you may be, give us a call and we can send out one of our experts to see what solutions we can offer you.
